Eighth Grader Write Essays

The eighth grade students in the classrooms of Mrs. Sandi Rossman and Mrs. Robyn Strayhorn have been very busy for the past few months learning to write a variety of different types of essays. Since the beginning of the school year, the eighth graders have learned to write narrative, expository, informative, and persuasive essays. For each essay assigned to them, students must prewrite using the four square writing model, write a rough draft, proofread, edit, and revise the draft, and then complete a final copy.

Students have written on many different topics this year including the worst event they have ever experienced and explaining where they would like to visit on a future field trip. Perhaps the best assignment of all was when the students had to persuade their team of teachers to give them straight As on their next report cards. The eighth graders proved to be very creative and inventive when answering that prompt!

The eighth graders have done a wonderful job so far this year working on their writing, proofreading, editing, and revising skills. These students will take a Writing SOL test in March, and they will be ready for it.
