Bonner Band Participated in 36th Annual Dixie Classic Band Competition

Over forty eighth grade students in the O. T. Bonner Middle School Band participated in the 36th Annual Dixie Classic Band Competition on Saturday, September 27th. This event was hosted at George Washington High School and featured bands from around the area.

All eighth grade band students from Danville Public Schools opened the competition by playing The Star Spangled Banner. Felecia Campbell, an eighth grade band student, explained, “My favorite part was hearing how great Bonner and Westwood sounded when we played together.” Many of the students even stayed after their performance was over to watch the other bands compete.

Eighth grade student Isaiah Crews said, “My favorite part was playing in front of over 200 people.” Another eighth grade student, Agustin Errecalde, agreed, “I enjoyed playing in front of people and playing with others. My favorite part was the music.”

The highlight of the evening was a special exhibition performance by the George Washington High School marching band. Mrs. Mitchell, the Bonner Band Director, and the eighth grade students would like to thank GW’s Band Director, Mr. Reginald Purvis, for inviting them to play.
