Polictical Parties

Civics students in Miss Cassie Burns’ classes have learned first- hand about running for office. Her classes recently participated in an election activity that gave them a close-up look at the process of running for office. The students divided into groups and formed their own political parties. They designed their party platform and “ran” for office by giving speeches and campaigning. Candidates took on such issues as violence and school lunches. Cake and candy tempted the voters as the candidates tried to persuade voters with treats. After the campaigning and speeches, students voted on the candidates of their choice. This experience gave the students an opportunity to see some of the work involved in running for public office.
