Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2016 -2017 school year at O. T. Bonner Middle School! We are excited to to be a part of your child’s education during their middle grade years. Middle School is a vital bridge between elementary and high schools. Also, it is a period when young people, often for the first time in their lives, begin actively seeking a sense of purpose and place. It is our job to provide them with these opportunities, while also keeping them engaged, challenged, and supported. Our children are gifts with limitless potential. Through the efforts of our entire school community, we can help them to develop their own unique skills and talents and prepare them for continued success far beyond their early adolescent years.

A primary vehicle through which we accomplish this growth and development is our interdisciplinary teams. There are several pillars to effective teaming—among them are 1) students sharing a common set of interdisciplinary teachers for all core classes; 2) teachers working in close physical proximity to one another, enabling greater collaboration; 3) teachers and counselors having regularly scheduled team meetings during a common planning time. This daily face-to-face interaction facilitates early intervention; 4) and perhaps, most importantly, teachers sharing a philosophy about how a developmentally responsive middle-level curriculum is delivered.

We continue to build and refine our proven foundation of good work, honored traditions, and respect for our students, staff, school, and community. Our mission statement remains: Bonner Middle School students will:

B--Be
O--Optimistic
N--Never
N--Neglect
E--Excellence &
R--Respect

Our staff of highly qualified professional educators and support personnel is committed to providing our students many opportunities. We invite our parents to work in partnership with us. We have our monthly Booster Club meetings which is our parent organization on the 2nd Monday of each month. After school club meeting schedules will be identified and schedules sent home during the week of August 29, 2016. Please look for our flyers and school messages about the meetings/events.

Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child. We need your support throughout the year. If you have questions, feel free to contact me or your grade level administrator (Ms. Gravely - 6th grade or Mr. Lee - 7th grade, or Mrs. Wall - 8th grade). Through our combined efforts, our children will benefit.

Yours in education,

Principal Daphne Ellington Wall, EdS
