Orchestra News:
Congratulations to the members of the G.W. Orchestra for receiving a Superior Score from each of the four judges and an overall score of Superior for their performance at the 2012 District Six Concert Assessment.  This marks the twenty seventh Superior rating the orchestra has received in the past thirty years under the direction of Mr. Sexton. 

 

The Symphony Orchestra is the select performing organization of GWHS open to any student through
audition. The orchestra performs at three formal concerts during the school year plus festivals and other
local engagements. Extra-curricular activities include trips to hear other orchestras.

George Washington HS and Mr. Carter honored Mr. Charles Sexton for his 30 years of service and outstanding achievements as conductor of the GWHS Orchestra during the spring concert on June 3, 2011.  Under Mr. Sexton's leadership, the orchestra has received 26 Superior ratings in the last 29 years. 

 

 

Michael Meadows began his cello instruction at GWHS under the guidance of Mr. Charles Sexton, conductor of the GW Orchestra. He continued his music studies at James Madison University.  He currently performs cello and mandolin with Taylor Swift and performed in November 2011 with James Taylor at Madison Square Garden.
