Community Parade Float

We are cooking up good things at Glenwood Elementary School, and to show it off, we celebrated Christmas by entering our first float in the Danville Christmas Parade. The Ye Olde Wildcat Cookie Shoppe Christmas Float was adorned with many of our own little chefs and five of the cutest little living gingerbread people ever imaginable. The gingerbread costumes were hand-sewn by one of our very own grandparents, Judy Lyles.  The decorations included two hand built replica wood stoves donated by Rickey Hammock, a giant gingerbread archway, and gingerbread cutouts, decorated by every student in the school. Principal Logan and First Grade teacher, Miss King, rode with the kids on the float, and several students, teachers and parents walked behind our Christmas cookie masterpiece. The float was sponsored and constructed by the PTA and a number of local businesses also donated materials. A banner on the back of the float thanked all of our contributors which included Bobby James of Seafood & More, Norm Aquilo of Riverland Music, Office Plus, Piedmont Siding, Airside Storage, Eastern Panel, O’Kelley’s, and Spotlight Express.  The idea of a cookie float originated as a way to thank the Nestle Corporation for the many years of continued support of Glenwood.
