PTA Meeting:  September 11, 2012

During our PTA meeting on September 11, 2012, the third, fourth, and fifth graders performed a medley of patriotic songs led by music teacher, Mrs. Rebecca Holt. This was in remembrance of the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001. Their voices captured the spirit of the words, and the audience was captivated by their performance. Songs included The Preamble, Fifty Nifty United States, Allegiance Rap, This Land is Your Land, and God Bless the USA. These songs are also being used to prepare for Constitution Day and will blend in with discussions in all of the classrooms as students learn more about the American Constitution.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Haynsworth shared a video presentation of what happened on 9/11 and had an actual piece of one of the World Trade Center Towers that fell during the attack. Over the last several years, Mr. and Mrs. Haynsworth were persistent in their attempts to obtain a piece of the World Trade Center. Their efforts paid off, and the 20 lb. piece of metal is now available for teachers in the district to use in educating students about this important event in United States history.
