GLH Johnson Elementary School
Your child's daily attendance is crucial to his/her education. Please encourage your child to complete and turn in all assignments on time. Also remember to send a note when your child returns to school from an absence. Absences will remain unexcused until a note is received. Our school hours for the 2016-2017 school year are 8:40 a.m to 3:40 p.m. The tardy bell will ring at 9:15 a.m. Students who come to school after 9:15 a.m. are tardy and the tardy will remain unexcused unless the parent comes in with the child and provides a written note. It is important that students come to school on time and remain for the duration of the school day. Classroom instruction will begin promptly at 9:25 a.m.
If your child needs to ride a bus other than the one he/she is assigned to, the request for a change must be in writing. The office staff cannot take a telephone request for bus changes. This is a Danville Public Schools policy.
GLH JOHNSON and WINTER WEATHER
Delayed School Opening FAQ:
How will parents know about delayed openings or early closings due to weather conditions?
- If your current telephone numbers are listed in the school's records (PowerSchool), you will receive an automated phone call.
- Listen to the radio or television
- Check the webpage (http://www.danvillepublicschools.org/)
- Call the weather hotline at 797-4590 extension 111
What time will the bus come if schools are opening on a delayed schedule?
If schools are one hour late, the bus should arrive approximately one hour later than the usual time. Example: If the bus comes at 8:15 then the bus would arrive at approximately 9:15. If schools are two hours late, a two hour delay for 8:15 would be 10:15.
How will I know what time my child will get out if school has to close early due to weather conditions?
Again, listen to the radio, keep an eye on the television, check the school division webpage or call the weather hotline (listed under the first question.) Since you will not know the time of dismissal until it is announced, you need to have a plan in mind. Who can pick up your child if you are not able to? Have you included that person on the list giving permission for them to check out your child? Who will be there when the bus arrives with your child? Talk with your child about what they are supposed to do if school gets out early.
Will my child get breakfast if school opens late?
If school opens on a one hour delay, then breakfast will be served.
If school opens on a two hour delay, then breakfast will NOT be served.
