Action for Healthy Kids, Virginia

In Physical Education at Schoolfield, our primary objective is fitness. We develop fitness concepts through our activities, games, dances, and skills. From our Physical Education curriculum, we hope our students develop a lifestyle committed to staying fit through staying active, getting rest and proper nutrition. This year the third, fourth, and fifth graders will be participating in a running/walking club during Physical Education to encourage the students to get moving. Kindergarten, first, and second graders will be focusing on movement skills.

We have several extra-curricular activities throughout the year. The annual Jump-Rope for Heart events are always a highlight to the year. Students learn they are not only helping themselves but also helping others with their donations. Another fun, active day is our annual Field Day. The students get the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor activities while also learning about cooperation, sharing, and sportsmanship.

Please encourage your students to wear appropriate clothing (e.g. tennis shoes, no jewelry, shorts under their skirts…) on Physical Education days. Moreover, your students should be as active as possible outside of school. Please influence your children to participate in activities that they enjoy. Seven days without exercise makes one weak!
