Geography Project

     Mrs. Harrelson’s class recently completed a geography project. Because the borders of some of the states were naturally made, attention was focused on natural versus man-made borders. With these visual models, students were better able to understand that rivers and ocean shorelines are not straight and that transportation on waterways requires that the state have a river or ocean as part of its geographical landform. Students were also able to discern that every state has a different shape as well as a different size and that the east coast states are bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and are closest to England and Africa. With these visual cues it is hoped that the students will better understand the role of the location and topography of each state in the historical development of the United States as a nation.
