Black History Month

     O. T. Bonner Middle School is currently celebrating Black History Month. Mr. Jeffress started the celebration by making an announcement to the entire school about the origins of Black History Month. Mr. Jeffress is also hosting “Music Mogul Mondays during the Monday morning announcements. During these special Monday sessions, students get to hear excerpts from songs and brief biographies of influential African American musicians. Students are enjoying music from Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and Michael Jackson.

Other activities are also happening throughout the school building. Informational posters that detail the accomplishments of individual African Americans have been hung throughout the school for students to view and read. A special bulletin board has been created that shows desirable character traits of historic African Americans. Ms. Camburides’ art classes have drawn portraits of African Americans that currently hang outside the main office for everyone to enjoy.

Students received a special treat on Friday, February 8th. Students were treated to a special assembly led by the Kuumba Dance Company. Everyone enjoyed the African dance and drumming presentation that day!
