GLH Johnson Elementary School

Fifth graders have been reading the book, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, about a boy that is disabled.  He is bullied by other children at his school.  Students are learning about bullying, identity, acceptance, and appearance.  Character development and comprehension of fiction are the main concepts being taught through this wonderful novel.  The students also worked hard to demonstrate respect, the character trait for Johnson Elementary for August and September.  They learned what it means to respect others, as well as yourself and were able to see how someone that is bullied feels, and the proper way to handle the situation.  Students were very excited to read the book and are looking forward to writing about what character they relate to the most in the story.
