Chess Club Broadens Thinking Skills

The W.W. Moore Chess Club is once again underway and this year is a promising one. Plans are already in the works to bring in a speaker from the newly formed Danville Chess Club. He will work with our students and help them to more fully develop their tactical skills. Other new experiences and opportunities are also on the horizon. As always the Chess Club aims to use the teaching of chess and the various tactics involved to help broaden not only the students’ culture and experience but also their thinking skills sets. Studies have shown that chess improves cognition and critical/analytical thinking skills in students; thus leading to higher academic proficiency.
