Dan River Autism Awareness 5K Walk

The Dan River Autism Awareness 5k took place on Saturday, May 21st. Westwood Middle School houses the middle school Autism education program for the Danville Public Schools. So, when the news about the Autism Awareness 5k reached Westwood, there was no question about whether we wanted to participate. As such, we wanted to show our love and support for our students with Autism. We used this event as an opportunity to unify our school and raise awareness. We hope that we will impact the lives of our students as much as they have impacted and made lasting, loving impressions on our hearts. The students, faculty, and staff of Westwood, along with our family and friends, were honored to be a part of this event. The Westwood Rockets team had 29 members and raised just over $800. We had team members to walk 1 mile, walk 3.2 miles, and run 3.2 miles. At the end of the event, our team member, Kelly Wilson, received a trophy for being the first place female with the fastest official time of 21:58. Overall, it was a wonderful day and we enjoyed spending time together and supporting a great cause.
