Checks and Balances with Excel

     Students in Ms. Brown’s Business Technology classes learned about writing checks, balancing a check book, and how to manage a monthly budget. Students went “shopping” in the classroom and were given scenarios they would face once they were out working including having to purchase food, purchase gas for a car, fixing car problems, expenses from going out with friends, etc. In order to complete the activities, students were given a “check book” and shown how to write out checks with their signatures, how they would use a Debit card, and then how they would balance their budgets. Once students completed that part of the activity, they were then instructed on how to keep up with their budget using an Excel spreadsheet. Students said “it was a great life lesson for our future and we had fun while learning”!
